Often in surveys, it's beneficial to ask respondents for justifications for certain responses they provide. Clarifying questions to respondents' answers can be created using a so-called "conditional area."
Forming a conditional question involves two steps:
1. Add a "conditional area" element to the content area and define the conditions behind the pencil icon that trigger the additional clarifying question to appear.
2. Move the additional question element inside the conditional area and formulate the clarifying question.
1. The construction of a conditional question begins by dragging the "conditional area" element from the "content" section onto the content area.
Note: For ease of editing questions even at later stages, it's advisable to place the conditional area logically below the question to which it relates on the content area.
2. Click the pencil icon on the "conditional area" element, which will open the settings for the conditional question on the right side of the page.
3. Under the "Add Rule" section, select from the dropdown menu the question on the form to which the clarifying question in the conditional area is related.
4. Then, from the dropdown menu, select all the response options for that question which will trigger the display of the clarifying additional question to the respondents.
5. Once all the response options (that activate the conditional additional question for the respondents) are selected from the dropdown menu, click "Add" to establish the rule.
6. To ensure that the rule defined for the conditional question area is saved, remember to click the "Set" button.
Once the rule for the conditional area has been set, you can proceed to select and write the question that will only be visible to respondents if their answers meet the rules of the conditional area.
7. Drag the desired question element from the editor on the right side into the conditional area.
8. Formulate the question within the conditional area.
For example, respondents can be asked to explain in their own words the rationale behind their selected response options.
9. As many conditional areas with their questions as necessary can be created in the survey.
In the example image, two conditional areas have been formed. The first one activates with response options 0-6. The second question activates if the respondent chooses the response option 7-10.
→ "Save".
The completed survey can be embedded on the company's website or sent to customers as a link attached to an email (note: the actual survey form cannot be directly embedded in an email message).
