Instructions on how to create a URL link from a PDF document.

Instructions for quickly creating a PDF link

The quickest way to create a link from a PDF is to save the PDF in your file manager (with a short and simple name) and then append the folder and file path to the following link:

yourdomain.com/shared/files/folder_name/file_name.pdf

For example, a PDF named "example" in the "pdf" folder in the file manager of WiseNetwork would be accessible at:

wisenetwork.com/shared/files/pdf/example.pdf

It's recommended to create a separate folder in the file manager for PDF files and name it something like "pdf." This way, all PDF files are located in the same place, and you can easily create links by only changing the file name at the end of the link.

If you edit the PDF file name in the file manager, you must also update the link with the new file name, as the old link will no longer work.

Please note that it’s best to keep the file name short and avoid special characters, spaces, or diacritical marks. Underscores work well for naming files.

Creating a PDF link directly to an article (the longer method of creating a PDF link)

1. Upload your desired PDF to the system's file management. You can access file management from the homepage view (not the admin side) by following this path:

Homepage → Media Library

or directly at: https://media.yourdomain.fi/.

Ensure the PDF is named sensibly and correctly (no special characters, spaces, or diacritics), as the file name will appear in the URL of the link.

For example, WiseNetwork's file management is located at media.wisenetwork.fi.

2. Navigate to edit the article to which you want to attach the PDF link.

3. In the article editing mode, select the "text" element from the left-hand content editor.

Clicking on the element adds it to the end of the page. You can drag it to place it immediately where you want.

4. In the text editing toolbar, select the "paper" icon or "add file".

5. The system opens the file management interface, where you select (double-click) the desired PDF file.

(If the PDF has not yet been added to the file management, you can do so at this stage by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of the file management page.)

6. The system creates a link to the PDF in the article, displaying the name of the PDF file.

7. If you want to change the link text, follow these steps:

  • Highlight the link address or place the cursor on it.
  • Select the "link" button from the text formatting toolbar.

8. In the "Display text" field, enter the text that you want to appear as the link text in the article, for example, in this case, "WiseGolf brochure".

Click "OK".

Note that the direct link to the PDF remains visible in the address field and can be copied and used in different contexts: wisegolf.fi/shared/files/pdf/wisegolf_a4_2022.pdf.

9. The desired text for the link will appear in the article.

Creating a link button

Creating a link button from a PDF file to an article can be done in two ways.

  • Select the "link" button from the text formatting toolbar.

2. Click the checkbox option:

→ "Display as button"

3. The PDF link will appear in the article as a button.

Method 2

1. In the article editing mode, select the "button link" element from the left-hand content editor.

If you click the element, it will appear at the end of the page. You can drag the element to place it immediately where you want.

2. Write the desired text directly into the button link instead of "button link" text. into even As even so has even so even so even even so comment even though

3. Once the link text is written, click on the pen icon on the right side of the element.

4. Place the PDF link into the "link address" field. Ensure that the PDF link has been created beforehand (refer to the previous instructions on how to create the link).

Additionally, choose whether to open the link in a new tab if necessary or center-align it.

Click "Save."

5. The PDF link will appear in the article as a button.
